What is VoIP?
VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. It works by translating your voice into tiny data packets which can then be electronically sent over a network or the internet. When they reach the person you are speaking to, the data is translated back into sound. Think of it as listening to the radio online – but you can talk back
What is SIP?
SIP stands for Session Initiation Protocol, and works in a similar way to VoIP. Your phone or phone system uses SIP to log in to another device or service provider, to tell it who and where it is to gain a connection or service. If you place your business number with an SIP service provider, it means that you can connect to that service from anywhere in the world. You could answer your 0207 number from an office in New York, Madrid, Liverpool, or even London.
Why go VoIP or SIP?
These tools can help to deliver the solutions that your business needs. VoIP is very useful for remote working as it is a highly cost effective option. SIP is a great tool for routing calls at minimum expense. They also allow you to retain your business number when moving office anywhere.
Will VoIP suit me?
The best way to find out if VoIP is the right solution for you is to call us on 0800 988 7200, and talk to an expert who can find out more about what your company needs.
VoIP and SIP are great technologies which provide valuable solutions, but there some important points to be taken into consideration:
- Broadband (ADSL) in the UK is not good enough to run your entire business over
- There are no service guarantees for ADSL in the UK
- Mission critical applications or services should not run over ADSL, and you cannot get more critical a service to any business than its phone calls
- Chase Meadow Communications only use VoIP and SIP where it provides an answer that otherwise does not exist or your business cannot afford
Your company may benefit greatly from using VoIP and SIP, but Chase Meadow Communications will not recommend them to you unless we are confident that it is the right option for your business. To find out more, call us or fill out our enquiry form.
