Chase Meadow Communications advise that you run CAT5e cabling for all devices, phones and computers.
Cabling is the most effective way to connect up your office network, and modern networks use CAT5e cabling for their basic infrastructure. Wireless technology is advancing, but currently cabling is the most reliable and effective method for creating a communication infrastructure.
The best way to organise your cabling is to allow for more than just 2 network points per desk. Two network points per desk will be instantly absorbed by the phone and computer that you deploy there, leaving no room for alternative or extra connections that you may need. Rearranging an office because you don't have enough network points to incorporate a fax, franking machine or network printer is stressful, time-consuming and avoidable.
Cabling once, ensuring that you have more than enough network points for your current situation can save you money and time when your business develops. We advise you to double the provision of network points and install 4 points per desk so that you do not have to re-organise the office or install more points when your company grows.
Chase Meadow Communications can help you plan and consider your needs carefully, we can put together floor plans for you and look to install a minimal cabling network if the budget cannot stretch to our recommendations.
Your plan will be based around your immediate needs and your anticipated future needs. By finding out about your business and how it works, Chase Meadow Communications can build a plan that fulfils all your requirements whilst keeping costs down wherever needed.

The different types of network you can use are:
- CAT5e – this is the core networking medium that almost every networked piece of hardware is built to connect to and use
- CAT6e – unless you have a good business case to use CAT6e we advise using CAT5e, there is not enough gain for the additional costs. You can run higher bandwidths over CAT5e now
- Fibre – for those very long cable runs, maybe to interconnect floors in a building, or to connect one building to another on site fibre can be the answer
- Wireless – becoming more and more common wireless technology enables the flexibility to work where you want to – provide internet service to visitors or guests – or to connect areas where cabling is too difficult to reach
- Laser – laser links can be used to connect buildings where running fibre is not allowed but where clear line of site exists.
